Reducing your energy Bills
Energy saving tips to help our customers to cut down on their heating bills.
With the current cost of living crisis and the new increased price cap increased in October, the following tips should help make a difference.
Upgrading your old boiler
Upgrading your old inefficient gas boiler to a high efficiency A rated condensing boiler can save you between £105 to £365 per year on energy bills according to the Energy Saving Trust, depending on property type.Reduce your boiler flow temperature
By reducing your boiler flow temperature down to around 60 degrees for heating and 55 degrees for hot water (combination boilers) and around 60 degrees on a standard boiler, can help to save energy. Most modern heating systems are designed with oversized radiators; however, care must be taken to do this correctly as it can cause radiators not to heat up properly.Treat heating system water
Dirt and air significantly impact on efficiency of a heating system, checking water quality and introducing a system filter and chemicals can help to make the system more efficient.Balancing your heating system
Providing equal flow to all your heated rooms and eliminating some lukewarm and some hot radiators prevents the heating from running longer periods to trying to heat the poorly heated rooms and hence incurring higher energy billsInsulating homes
Homes can lose up to 25% of heat from uninsulated walls, roofs, and pipes etc. Properly insulated roofs for example may save up to £380 per year on energy bills according to the Energy Saving Trust.Fitting Thermostatic Radiators Valves
These simple controls can monitor individual room temperature and prevent overheating and help maintaining correct room temperature. This alone can save on average of 18% over an uncontrolled radiator.Upgrade your thermostat
Advanced heating controls can help reduce energy. A new modulating or smart thermostat will help to modulate your gas boiler and reduce energy usage, this can save up to 12% in the heating season.Weather or load compensation
These additional controls monitor the outside air temperature, as well as the inside and adjust the boiler to produce the necessary amount of energy needed. This is particularly useful in homes that have large windows or poor insulation in which the internal temperature can be more affected by changes outside.Zone the home
For Example, Upstairs Zone, downstairs zone or individually zoning rooms. By creating zones means that you only heat the areas of your property when required, instead of the whole house whenever there is a demand for heat. This can easily be achieved with smart thermostats and connected TRV’s. This most likely will be supported and controlled by a smart phone. For any of these energy saving tips we would be happy to discuss your options and give you a free no obligation quotation.
